Copy Writer
We are currently accepting applications for a copy writer. The ideal candidate will work closely with members of the
editorial, digital, and art departments to shape, refine, and produce high-quality web content that is clear, compelling, SEO-optimized, and aligned with Maples Time’s voice and values. The editorial team at Maples Time is a passionate group of writers and editors committed to telling stories that matter—across news, entertainment, tech, and sports—with depth, creativity, and purpose. The copy writer will be an integral part of our fast-paced digital publishing process, bringing sharp judgment and a storytelling mindset to articles, blogs, and branded content.
To be successful in this role, you will need strong writing skills, a deep understanding of content strategy, and experience using WordPress. You’ll be responsible for producing impactful, search-friendly content that connects with readers and strengthens the Maples Time brand. This position reports to the editorial director
Core Responsibilities
- Assign, edit, and fact-check stories across news, entertainment, and sports verticals
- Collaborate with writers, designers, and digital leads to shape multimedia storytelling
- Line-edit and copyedit for clarity, accuracy, and tone, ensuring adherence to style guidelines
- Pitch timely and relevant story ideas that reflect underrepresented voices and communities
- Manage editorial calendars and production schedules
- Optimize content for web, social, and SEO performance
- Work with contributors and freelancers to refine story development and delivery
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or college degree (or equivalent experience) in journalism, communications, or a related field
- Two to three years of experience in digital or print editorial environments
- Excellent editing, writing, and fact-checking skills
- Strong knowledge of Canadian news, cultural trends, and media landscape
- Familiarity with content management systems (WordPress preferred)
- Understanding of social media platforms and their role in content distribution
- Comfortable working under tight deadlines and juggling multiple projects
- A collaborative spirit, strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for storytelling
- Familiarity with the mission and content style of Maples Time across platforms
