West Shore RCMP is asking the public to identify a male suspect after a woman was assaulted in Thetis Lake Park on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened about 9 a.m., when the woman was on a trail and was approached by a man who appeared from the bushes.

Police said the man grabbed the woman, but she was able to get away. The woman was not injured.

The man is described as white, about six-foot-four, with a slim build and short curly blond hair that is greying.

He wore a short-sleeved green T-shirt, khaki pants, dark boots and dark socks.

“The safety of community members at our parks is a priority,” said Cpl. Chris Joy of the West Shore RCMP bike unit. “Although incidents like this are rare, they are concerning, and we ask that the public report suspicious activity right away so police can promptly respond.

If you see suspicious behaviour or feel unsafe, please contact the police.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident, including photos or videos of a person matching the man’s description, or who has had similar interactions, to contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
