Fatal Dec. 7 Collision Leaves One Driver at Large
Vancouver police are investigating a troubling series of hit-and-run incidents, including two that proved fatal, raising renewed concerns about road safety and accountability across the city.
The most recent fatal incident occurred on Dec. 7, 2025, shortly after 7:20 p.m., when a 61-year-old man was struck while crossing mid-block near East Hastings Street and Dunlevy Avenue. According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the victim was hit by two westbound vehicles.
One driver stopped and remained at the scene. The second fled.
The pedestrian later died from his injuries.
Police are now searching for a white Range Rover Evoque believed to have been involved in the collision.
Police Seek White Range Rover With Likely Front-End Damage
Investigators say the suspect vehicle likely sustained visible damage during the crash.
“This vehicle likely sustained damage to the front fender or passenger-side mirror as a result of striking the pedestrian,” said Const. Megan Lui of the Vancouver Police Department in an emailed release.
Police are urging anyone who may have seen the vehicle or knows the whereabouts of the driver to come forward.
“If you’ve seen the vehicle, or know the whereabouts of the driver, we’re asking you to please call our investigators,” Lui said.
No arrests have been made in connection with the Dec. 7 incident.
Third Unsolved Hit-and-Run Since Late November
The Dec. 7 death marks the third unsolved hit-and-run in Vancouver since Nov. 27, a cluster of incidents that has alarmed residents and city officials alike.
On Nov. 27, a 40-year-old man was struck in East Vancouver and dragged by a vehicle, suffering what police described as life-altering injuries. The victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a 2010–2012 Acura RDX, but the driver has not been identified.
The nature of the injuries and the circumstances of the crash prompted a major investigation, though no charges have yet been laid.
Second Fatal Incident Ends With Vehicle Seizure
In a separate case, police confirmed that an 81-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle in East Vancouver on Dec. 22.
Unlike the other cases, investigators were able to locate and seize a vehicle connected to that collision. Police have not yet said whether charges will be filed.
The death of the elderly woman has added urgency to calls for improved pedestrian safety, particularly in neighbourhoods with heavy traffic and limited crossing infrastructure.
A Pattern That Raises Broader Questions
While hit-and-run collisions are not uncommon in large cities, the close succession of serious incidents has intensified scrutiny of driver behaviour, enforcement, and street design in Vancouver.
Police have not said whether the cases are linked, but the fact that multiple drivers fled the scenes including one fatal collision involving two vehicles has drawn public concern.
VPD continues to appeal for witnesses, dashcam footage, and tips from the public in all unresolved cases.
Summary
Vancouver police are grappling with a disturbing pattern of hit-and-run incidents that have left two people dead and another seriously injured in less than a month. The most recent fatal case, involving a 61-year-old man struck by two vehicles in early December, remains unsolved, with investigators actively searching for a white Range Rover Evoque believed to have fled the scene.
Together with a serious Nov. 27 collisions that left a 40-year-old man with life-altering injuries, and the Dec. 22 death of an 81-year-old woman, the incidents highlight persistent risks faced by pedestrians particularly in East Vancouver.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even small details could prove critical. As investigations continue, the string of cases has renewed broader conversations about road safety, accountability, and the consequences of fleeing the scene of a collision.
